Ausflug nach Lourdes / Visit Lourdes
Lourdes ist in Frankreich der berühmteste Wallfahrtsort. Und da es von Pau nur eine halbe Stunde mit der Bahn bis Lourdes ist, bin ich da einfach mal hingefahren. Vom Bahnhof on Lourdes läuft man erstmal durch den Boulevard de la Grotte.
Das ist eine Einkaufsstraße, in der Religion gnadenlos kommerzialisiert wird. Da gibt es Marienstatuen aus Holz und Plastik, handgeschnitzt oder made in China, Marienbilder groß und klein und Kerzen von klein bis groß. Die größte Kerze die ich gesehen hatte war von 35Kilogramm!
Die eigentliche Wallfahrtsstätte ist beeindruckend. Da bin auch ich als Protestant begeistert. Ich durfte sogar an einem Messe teilnehmen, auf Schweizerdeutsch. Bemerkenswerter Schlusssatz der Predigt: „Geduld mit dem Nächsten ist Liebe, Geduld mit Anderen ist Hoffnung und Geduld mit sich selbst ist Glaube.“
Danach hatte ich noch mein Trinkflasche mit dem Heiligen Wasser aufgefüllt. Ob dies mich beflügelt für die Tour morgen darf ich hoffen.
Da Heiliges Wasser den Hunger leider nicht stillt war noch ein Besuch in einer Pizzaria notwendig.
Lourdes is the most famous pilgrimage site in France. And since it's only half an hour by train from Pau to Lourdes, I just went there. From the train station in Lourdes, you first walk through the Boulevard de la Grotte.
This is a shopping street where religion is mercilessly commercialized. There are statues of the Virgin Mary made of wood and plastic, hand-carved or made in China, images of the Virgin Mary large and small, and candles ranging from small to large. The largest candle I saw weighed 35 kilograms!
The actual pilgrimage site is impressive. Even I, as a Protestant, am impressed. I am even allowed to attend a mass, in Swiss German. The final sentence of the sermon was remarkable: "Patience with your neighbor is love, patience with others is hope, and patience with yourself is faith."
Afterwards, I filled up my drinking bottle with holy water. I can only hope that this will inspire me for the tour tomorrow.
Since holy water unfortunately does not satisfy hunger, a visit to a pizzeria was necessary.
Zurück in Pau / Back in Pau
In Pau wieder angekommen machte ich noch ein Bummel durch die Altstadt. Die Stadt hat eine ausgedehnte Fussgängerzone mit vielen kleinen schönen Geschäften. Hatte ich bisher gedacht das Eis in der Maximilianstraße ist teuer, hier wird es getopt: 3.50€ für eine Kugel in der Waffel. When I arrived back in Pau, I took a walk through the old town. The city has an extensive pedestrian zone with lots of small nice shops. I had previously thought the ice cream on Maximilianstrasse was expensive, but here it is topped: €3.50 for a scoop in a waffle. What ever it costs, it was delicious.
