Etappe 15 Santa Cruz de la Serós KM 353-375

Legenden zufolge war in dem Monasterieo San Juan de la Pena im frühen Mittelalter der Heilige Gral versteckt worden. Also geh ich mal da hin und schaue ob er noch da ist.

Doch bevor ich das Kloster erreiche, steht eine sehr schöne, aber auch anstrengende Bergwanderung an, den das Kloster liegt auf über 1200m! Die Aussichten in eine tolle Bergwelt sind die Anstrengungen auf jeden Fall wert.

According to legend, the Holy Grail was hidden in the Monasterieo San Juan de la Pena in the early Middle Ages. So I'm going there and seeing if it's still there.

But before I reach the monastery, there's a very beautiful but also strenuous mountain hike ahead of me, as the monastery is at over 1200m! The views of the fantastic mountains are definitely worth the effort.

Zunächst erreiche ich das sogenannte neue Kloster, dieses ist jedoch stark zerstört worden.

Man kann dies besichtigen, dazu geht man über einen Glasboden  und unterhalb sind die alten Mauern! Auf jeden Fall eine ungewöhnliches aber spannende Museums Anlage. 

Ein Kilometer weiter und 100m tiefer ist das ursprüngliche Kloster. Diese ist unter eine großen Felsvorsprung hineingebaut. Dieses beherbergt eine mozarabische Unterkirche. Die linke Apsis zeigt das Martyrium der Heiligen Kosmas und Damian. Etwas jünger ist der Konziliensaal. Zur Anlage gehört auch die königliche Gruft in der Könige von Aragon und Navarra bestattet wurden.

Die Oberkirche stammt aus der zweiten Hälfte des 11 Jahrunderts. Die Decke der Kirche ist teils aus dem anstehenden Gestein gebildet. Und hier auf dem Altar steht er der Heilige Gral! endlich gefunden. Doch zu früh gefreut, es ist nur ein Nachbildung. First I reach the so-called new monastery, but this has been badly damaged.

You can visit it, you walk over a glass floor and the old walls are below! Definitely an unusual but exciting museum complex.

One kilometer further and 100m deeper is the original monastery. This is built under a large rocky outcrop. This houses a Mozarabic lower church. The left apse shows the martyrdom of Saints Cosmas and Damian. The council hall is a little younger. The complex also includes the royal crypt in which the kings of Aragon and Navarre were buried.

The upper church dates from the second half of the 11th century. The ceiling of the church is partly made of the rock. And here on the altar is the Holy Grail! Finally found. But too soon to rejoice, it is only a replica. The original is in the cathedral of Valencia.
